Long Way Down: Bio
Trying Times, the debut EP release from Edmonton, Alberta’s Long Way Down, exhibits the collaborative musical styling of song writer’s Jakk Grandy and Steve Faulkner. The two, who co-founded the group in early 2001 blend influences from acts like Billy Talent and Aerosmith into seven driving anthems including ‘Around the Bend’, a war-driven, up-tempo rock thumper and the Great American Song contest Honor Award winning ‘Sick of it All’ – influenced by personal experiences with gun violence.
Trying Times showcases some of the band’s strongest material to date. The disc also features drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Smashing Pumpkins, Rolling Stones, Jon Bon Jovi, John Fogerty and Avril Lavigne) who spent 4 days in Edmonton in August of 2005 recording drum tracks for the 7 song EP.
The first single ‘Around the Bend’ has received features in various radio markets across Canada charting at #266 nationally in December of 2006. ‘Around the bend’ has also been used as theme music for the Maximum Fighting Championship and Monster Pro Wrestling in addition to being used on soundtracks for several live DVD productions.
To experience Long Way Down is to see them live, with a show that has been described as mesmerizing and engaging. They have shared a stage with the likes of fellow Canadian acts such as Sam Roberts, Thornley, Bif Naked, The Trews, Default and Theory of a Deadman to name a few.
Drummer Nathan Kidd, bassist Rob Komarnisky and guitarist Zeek Ammar round out the hard-hitting quintet who also finished as a finalist in the ‘Canadian Music Week’ regional finals in 2004 as well as placing in the top 3 at the ‘Molson Canadian Rock Search’ and winning the ‘Kokanee Free Ride’ in 2005.
Long Way Down is poised to make a long lasting impression on the Canadian music industry and music fans alike. Long Way Down recently performed at the 2007 North by North East music festival in Toronto, Ontario, Canada as part of their first eastern Canadian venture and will embark on their second cross-Canada tour in October, in addition to participating in 3 annual western Canadian music festivals in August before commencing work on pre-production for a sophomore effort in September 2007.
