Having a wife and 2 kids is a responsibility I take seriously and it feeds into my personal happiness to maintain this relationship as best as I can, so I'd say I'm a family man first, and everything else second. That said, I feed on creativity and expression, so I don't think I'd be as happy without music and all the things I do with it (writing, performing, teaching, production, etc). Where can people find out more about me and the band? Online is the best place nowadays. I have a twitter account of course and update that pretty often. Our bio is on our site so that's a good place too. But maybe the best place to learn about us and our lives is to listen to our lyrics and I think you'll get a sense of what we're about. 2. Who are your biggest influences? I'd say Pearl Jam is my biggest personal influence (alongside all the big bands of the early 90s). Lately I'm really big in Linkin Park and Them Crooked Vultures. As for MSO influences, Eug and I both enjoy many of the same albums. Red Hot Chili Peppers (older stuff), Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Bad Religion, etc... We each listen to jazz and funk too, but we're both pretty hard into the mainstream alt/modern rock. Add Incubus, My Chemical Romance, and 80s pop to that too. 3. If you could have anyone in your band, who would it be? A better singer. Haha. Seriously though, I think Chris Cornell would be fun to write songs with. Les Claypool would be the guy I'd pick to replace me on bass though. 4. What is the largest and smallest crowd you`ve played in front of? Smallest crowd has happened a bunch of times... it's always the staff at whatever bar we're playing and maybe some members from the other bands. Usually on cold February Wednesdays. Largest crowd was recently at Campus Chaos. There were over 5000 in attendance so that was our biggest show so far. 5. What signed band should get dropped so that you can get a record deal and why? Hmmm.... That doesn't seem fair, but I think I'd take Ruben Studdard's record deal. He's obviously unmarketable. Have you seen Eug's abs? Now those puppies are marketable. 6. You`ve produced a couple bands, name three bands you’d like the opportunity to produce? Linkin Park. Pearl Jam. I Mother Earth with Edwin on vocals. 7. What producers would you like to your band to work with? Trent Reznor. GGGarth. Phil Anderson. Matt deMatteo. Greig Nori. Trevor Hurst. All at the same time. 8. What makes your Bass & Drum Duo better than all other Bass & Drum Duos? Well, we've been a rhythm section since January 1996. Even when we're loose, we're tight. Plus, if we rehearse, we only rehearse on the days we play. However many shows we played last year (10 or so?), well, we had less rehearsals than that number. Also, every other bass & drum duo that ever made any real noise has broken up. We're still together, that's makes us better I think. Not that's it's a contest. But if it was, yeah, we'd win. 9. If your band could tour with any 3 bands, who would it be and why? Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against The Machine, and Linkin Park. They all have great stage shows, great songs, and off-stage they all seem like awesome guys (based on their twitter updates, videos, etc). 10. What advice would you give a new band starting out? Get tight. Practice practice practice. Write write write. Learn learn learn. Don't be afraid to be original. See what all those other bands are doing? Do the opposite. There are no real hard rules to any of this, so just have fun. Being on time is also appreciated by people. Also, don't listen to advice from jaded music industry people - wait, that's me! ![]() |
